Travelers have found themselves stranded in London and Paris due to the cancellations of trains.

They have been unable to get home on account of Europe being hit with a swarm of flood warnings.

Consequently, Eurostar took to canceling its services as well, shortly after a tunnel located under the River Thames flooded because of heavy rain.

This led to a cancelation of plans of various tourists, who had been in the cities for their holidays.

Travelers

Since this festive season is one of the busiest periods of the year, hundreds of travelers found themselves lost.

They were unable to make their way across the English Channel and had to remain at the St. Pancras International station in London.

Meanwhile, those who had been visiting the city of love found themselves stuck at the Gare du Nord station.
On this note, Eurostar was unable to facilitate the travel of passengers from London to Paris or Brussels to Amsterdam.

The company took to announcing that it would not be running any high-speed train services until the foreseeable future due to the consistent flooding.

As of now, the UK has found itself battered after the gusty and strong winds that have brought about heavy rain.

All this devastation has been credited to Storm Gerrit, as it continues to disrupt travel in this festive period.

Flooding

The relevant authorities have warned that there are likely to be more disruptions as the new year kicks off.

In line with this, the Met Office, the weather forecaster in the UK, stated that additional rain and high winds are likely to hit southern England and London soon.

Meanwhile, the country has been predicted to experience gusts of around 80kph, with the coastal areas receiving the strongest winds.

Furthermore, the rest of Europe is also bracing to experience flooding in the upcoming days.

In Germany, the forecasts have predicted heavy rainfall as the nation grapples with the end of the festive season.

Most of the areas of the country have been hit by severe rain since the eve of Christmas. At the same time, various rivers have burst their banks, and others are likely to do the same.

The DWD weather service in the country spoke about the heavy rains and flooding, saying that the Harz Mountain, located in central Germany, would receive some downpour in a couple of days.

Several other areas that are located in the western state of North-Rhine Westphalia are also likely to be hit by rainfall.

Other countries

Other countries located in the North and East of Europe have been given severe warnings with respect to the weather.

The daily lives of the residents of Lithuania, Hungary, and the Netherlands have also been seriously affected.

To halt further disruption, various flood barriers have been set up in a number of locations along Ijssel, the Dutch River.

Danube’s flood barriers are also being enforced, which runs through the capital of Hungary. As of now, this river is at its peak, something that has not happened in a decade.
