As per the most recent data released by Turespana, the tourism office in Spain, the total number of planned seats for international flights to the country was significantly high this year.

In a report published by the relevant office, the number stood at 8.1 million, which is a 14.2% surge as compared to the corresponding period in 2022.

Back then, the total number of planned seats for international flights to Spain was around 7.1 million.

Countries

Data further indicated that in the month of December, Poland was the leading country with an outstanding performance.

The country had around 90.7% more planned seats as compared to December of the previous year.

Poland’s performance was followed by the Czech Republic, which displayed an increase of 46.2% in the same figure.

Meanwhile, the United States brought up the rear by posing an increase of 27.2% in the year-on-year planned seats for international flights.

Where Austria is concerned, the country demonstrated substantial growth in its year-on-year figure by a total of 26.4% for flights booked for the last month of 2023.

According to Turespana, December of 2023 has been forecasted to be excellent for the travel and tourism sector.

Consequently, it added that the country would be rounding off its final quarter with a boom in the sector, which is in line with the plans for the deseasonalisation of tourist flows.

Moreover, the tourism office believes that the same progress will continue well into the upcoming year.

Seats

The distribution of seats on numerous scheduled flights by country indicated that the UK took the lead.

It recorded a total of 19.3% of the overall reserved seats for the last month of the current year.

Meanwhile, Germany followed closely behind and reported holding 12.6% of the total allocated seats.

Lastly, Italy secured the third position in this category and booked a total of 9.7% of the seats.

As per previous data released by Turespana, there was a noteworthy increase of 9.8% in the year-on-year figure for the total number of flights available in October of the current year.

In the same month in the previous year, the office recorded no less than 9.6 million seats on all international flights.

The same source took to revealing that there was a significant variance of more than 393,000 seats as compared to the pre-pandemic months, specifically October 2019.

Back then, the country booked a total of 10.1 million planned seats for all international flights.

Performance

The figures released by Turespana further highlight the strong performance displayed by Portugal, which boasts a year-on-year growth rate of 21.2%

Similarly, Mexico displayed a remarkable growth rate of 20.5% as compared to its performance in the previous year.
