The weather in Germany has significantly worsened, which has caused a delay and suspension of various flights flying in and out of the country.

Just recently, the cold led to a number of flights at the Munich Airport (MUC) being canceled, which has left passengers unable to reach their destination and remain stranded in the country.

On this note, the airport authorities took to releasing a statement saying that flights that have been scheduled until further notice have to be suspended.

This decision was taken in lieu of the freezing rain being experienced by the nation, causing temperatures to drop to unprecedented levels.

Munich Airport

The relevant departments of the Munich Airport further revealed that operating areas will have to be de-iced before flights can be permitted to take off.

It outlined a plan to first get the runway ready and then permit flight to resume shortly after.

However, a large number of flights had to be canceled for safety reasons and to give the airport authorities time to make the desired preparations.

According to the Munich Airport, travelers should stay in touch with their respective airlines and inquire about the status of the flight prior to leaving for the airport.

They have been warned that due to the heavy rain during the day and night, Germany may not be operating too many flights until it receives the green signal from the relevant authorities.

Customers

Given that the Munich Airport made this announcement through X, formerly known as Twitter, passengers took to tweeting their discontent surrounding the situation.

One commenter suggested that the airport contact the Helsinki, which regularly experiences heavy snow and rain situations.

Even so, the airport is able to clean an entire runway full of snow in no less than 11 minutes and continue operating without any issues.

However, the airport is not on board with this suggestion and took to explaining the Scandinavian countries are generally much colder and experience powder snow that is drier and easier to clean.

On the other hand, the temperatures in Germany are currently near freezing point, leading to wet snow.

As a result, the nation is experiencing difficulties in streamlining the cleaning of the runway and ensuring the safe flight and landing of airplanes.

Social media

Currently, social media is filled with images of passengers lying on the floor of the airport, waiting for the airport to permit their flights to fly.

There is considerable havoc at the Munich Airport, which has been ongoing since the weekend.

However, the relevant authorities of the airport had warned about canceled flights earlier in the week, as experts forecasted a decline in the meteorological conditions in the country.

There were a total of 840 flights scheduled for the first day of the week alone, out of which 230 were canceled.

The Christmas market of the airport was also shut down due to the freezing weather.

Just last year, a similar situation occurred at the Munich Airport around the same time. back then, 133 flights had to be canceled on account of a frozen runway.
