Air passengers who have booked flights for various countries across Europe have been suffering the consequences of Storm Pia.

This primarily applies to those who are traveling through the various Scandinavian countries in the last couple of days as the storm has moved toward the North.

On this note, several airlines have announced that they will be canceling flights, even those that have been scheduled for Christmas Eve.

The reason behind these large cancelations is due to poor weather conditions being experienced by the countries.

As a result, hundreds of travelers have had to reschedule flights and alter their plans for the holidays.

Denmark

Due to the swift movement of the storm in the North, numerous airlines have changed their flight plans.

Amongst these airlines is the Scandinavian Airlines, the flag carrier of Denmark. This was confirmed by Irena Busic, the press officer of the airline in Sweden.

In the words of Busic, this extreme measure has been taken by the relevant authorities due to the ongoing cancelations and delays.

As a result, the crew is in dire need of a comprehensive reorganization, as well as the ground personnel and aircraft.

As of now, the ground personnel is especially in disarray, as their locations have been thoroughly dispersed.

The routes that have taken the most impact because of the storm are primarily operated by SAS.

These include Oslo Gardermoen and several destinations abroad. The latter include Alicante, Paris, Munich, Gran Canaria, and Zurich, to name a few.

At the same time, various flights from Bergen to Trondheim and Oslo to Amsterdam were also canceled.

SAS

Due to the ongoing and deteriorating situation with respect to flights, SAS has released a statement to express its regret.

It went on to acknowledge that the plans of numerous travelers have been ruined to a large extent.

Moreover, it talked about how people had to struggle after canceled flights to find one that would take them to their destinations. However, these passengers had to face disappointment due to flights being completely booked.

On this note, SAS revealed that it has deployed additional flights between Paris and Oslo to tackle the worsening situation.

Norwegian airlines

On the other hand, passengers who have been using Norwegian airlines have also had to face disappointment.

Their flights were significantly delayed on account of the storm. But as of now, no cancellations have taken place.

In this December, Storm Pia has hit various areas of northwest Europe. Heavy winds in the region have caused substantial damage and left two people dead.

This included a woman in Belgium who also suffered fatal injuries after being struck due to a falling Christmas tree. Another person in the Netherlands lost their life because a tree fell on them.

On Friday, it was further reported that no less than 200 flights could be cancelled at the Schiphol Amsterdam Airport on account of the storm.

The authorities said that they are expecting wind speeds coming in from the west of around 50 kilometers. Meanwhile, it also predicted gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour.
