Juanma Moreno, the head of the regional government of Andalusia, has predicted that there is soon going to be a significant change in the patterns of travel of tourists.

He added that this change would mainly be noticed in the visitors making the trips to Costa del Sol, in lieu of the rising temperatures, as the seasons change.

The president expressed his concerns shortly after he returned after participating in the COP28 climate change conference, which was held in Dubai.

Moreno took to expressing his concerns regarding the deep challenges that could have a significant impact on the travel and tourism industry in the area.

COP28

As per the local media, the head was deeply concerned about the temperatures in Costa del Sol after the COP28 conference.

In his words, the region is likely to face prominent and profound challenges in the near future as the climate crisis sweeps across it.

However, he pointed out that it is currently too early for tourists or the area to be impacted by a change in temperatures.

Consequently, the current holiday and tourism season has been going as planned. Costa del Sol is also not suffering from a lack of water reserves, as predicted to happen in the future.

But as the president acknowledged that there is a possibility of declining travel and tourism activities in the area in the upcoming years, he remained optimistic.

In his words, the lost rainfall in the current period would soon be recovered in the upcoming months.

Climate crisis

In addition, the increasing average temperatures, as well as the rising intensity of heat waves, are believed to have a significant impact on the conventional tourist season.

As a result, visitors are likely going to prefer to travel to Costa del Sol in the comparatively cooler months.

The president took to explaining that the region, as well as Andalusia, are likely to face increased competition from destinations that boast a more moderate and cooler climate during the peak seasons.

However, despite these rising challenges, Moreno expressed confidence and hope for the upcoming year,

He went on to add that the region can easily maintain the extraordinary and unprecedented tourist numbers that it recorded in the recently concluded season.

Andalusia has gone on to set various records, and so have Costa del Sol and the province of Malaga.

Water conservation

Previously, travelers to a spa and holiday resort, which is located in Malaga, were requested to save water by turning the taps off while they brushed their teeth.

This encouragement came soon after the entire region began to struggle with water restrictions.

During that summer, the famous Spanish tourist center in the province acted as the only source of water for travelers.

Back then, visitors and residents alike could only get water for a limited time on a daily basis.

Moreover, the region focused on desalination at the time as a possible solution that would help combat severe drought.

Currently, plans are also underway for a new desalination plant with a designated timeline of five years
