Seville, a popular tourist spot in Spain, has announced that it will not be permitting people to wear sexist underwear and outfits in public.

The relevant authorities of the city revealed that they are going to start punishing people who violate this instruction.

This announcement comes shortly after the newly elected mayor of the city stated that the council is working towards establishing a law that will put an end to antisocial behavior in all public places.

According to Jose Luis Sanz, the mayor elected in Seville in the month of May, people who fail to adhere to the rules will be subjected to a fine without any exceptions.

Antisocial conducts

Sources have revealed that through the new law, the mayor is hoping to put an end to a number of antisocial conducts.

This includes wearing underwear in various public places, as well as outfits that display sexist messages or elements.

Sanz revealed that authorities will be instructed to ban outfits accordingly, especially if they violate the sexual or moral integrity of another individual.

In addition, inciting the performance or performing of acts that violate another individual’s sexual freedom in public will also be fined.

Respectful parties

Sanz has further claimed that Seville does not want to engage in the type of tourism that is solely related to bachelorette and bachelor parties.

However, he added that this does not mean that people cannot host such parties in the city. It only iterates that events like these need to be more respectful toward others.

In his words, these strict actions are mandatory because the residents of Seville become disturbed by outrageous parties and certain outfits.

He went on to say that the people of the Spanish city also have the right to enjoy the place where they live but are unable to due to tourists and other residents making them feel alienated.

Consequently, it is believed that the residents of the city are likely to be pretty accepting of these new measures revealed by the mayor.

This is because they have expressed discontent with the behavior of visitors in the past, especially as the number of visitors to the city has rapidly increased after the pandemic.

Residents, on various occasions, have also complained that there are a number of hen and stag parties held across the city that can be categorized as ‘shameful’, with people indulging in ‘indecent’ behavior.

New measures

Seville is not the first city in Spain or Europe to introduce measures that curtail the inappropriate behavior of tourists.

Previously, the city of Malaga took to announcing that it would be levying a fine of €750 on people who come out nude in public or choose to wear underwear in the streets.

On the other hand, back in 2016, Mojar in Almeria took to banning wearing accessories that could be considered explicit and offensive.

As of now, it is becoming increasingly normal across Europe for cities to place restrictions on tourists.

This has especially become a trend in Italy, Portugal, and Spain, which are readily preferred destinations by tourists.
