As of now, Italy is making appropriate preparations to evacuate the tourists and residents of the country in lieu of the threat of a volcano.

The relevant authorities revealed that they have come up with evacuation plans for the supervolcano located in close proximity to Naples.

Moreover, the government is working hard to make sure that the necessary measures are functional and in place, should the need arise for residents to leave the area quickly.

The volcano

Campi Flegrei is located around 20 kilometers away from Naples, which is a popular and frequently visited destination by tourists.

One of the primary reasons why the area is well-known among international and domestic travelers is the beautiful Amalfi Coast.

As of now, the government of Italy is talking about precautionary measures, like checking the foundation and structure of the buildings in nearby areas.

It has also devised plans to evacuate people residing in close proximity to the volcano.

This decision comes on the heels of the recent natural disasters and various earthquakes that have impacted the country.

Campi Flegrei is surrounded by various towns and villages, which also include Pozzuoli, Bacoli, and Agnano. Together, the area makes up a population of more than 500,000 people.

Previous tragedies

The Italian territory is no stranger to natural disasters and other devastating tragedies.

In the last month alone, the country experienced over 1,100 earthquakes, which also included one with a magnitude of 4.0 and 4.2.

The latter occurred just last week, and it was also the strongest that the region has recorded in over four decades.

While talking about the volcano, experts have said that it may not necessarily be a significant threat to people as it is highly unlikely to erupt.

However, in case the predictions turn out to be wrong, the eruption could have a substantial impact on local buildings.

The risk of the buildings is also higher due to the ground recording a rise of 1.5 centimeters every month for the past couple of months.

But while the government has made complete preparations for an evacuation, it has not taken any action yet.

According to the Civil Protection Minister, namely Nello Musumeci, the mass evacuations of the people in the region will only be triggered if there is an extreme necessity.

Other resources

The authorities of the government have further divulged that they will be engaging additional resources and strengthening local civil protection to ensure that they are able to intervene in case of emergency.

Meanwhile, the government is consistently running communication campaigns among residents and tourists to raise awareness on the matter.

The hospitals located in the area or in close proximity have also started evacuation tests. They believe that it is necessary to ensure that there are no casualties.

This is mainly due to the fact that the last time a burst of earthquakes hit the region of Campi Flegrei, around 40,000 people had to be evacuated.

Meanwhile, Italy started off its summer season with flooding on account of storms and rains. As a result, the authorities have sprung into action to ensure safety of life and property.
