The authorities in France have requested airlines to reduce the number of flights going in and out of the Paris-Orly airport, scheduled for the coming Friday.

The reason behind this request is the threat of the trade unions to call a strike on account of pay increases.

The authorities have stated that at least 40% of the flights should be canceled by the Paris-Orly airport.

On the other hand, the regional airports of Beauvaus and Marseille-Provence have been informed to reduce the number of flights by 15 and 20%, respectively.

The strike

The unions have threatened to impose a strike just three days before the government union’s scheduled meeting to discuss low wages.

The authorities have taken to warn that short-haul flights are likely to be affected due to cancellations in the upcoming weeks.

As of now, airlines are making consistent efforts to ensure that long-haul flights are not impacted due to the protests of the workers.

In any case, passengers have been advised to check the status of their flights prior to the scheduled time to ensure that it has not been canceled.

The members of the unions have made it clear that the strike actions will not be limited just to air traveling.

It is believed that workers of the Paris Metro are likely to continue with their strike up until the end of the current month.

Sources have revealed that station workers will also be protesting to receive additional pay, which is being offered primarily to train drivers on account of the World Cup Event.

The city is gearing up to welcome a significant number of tourists as the 28th of October, the day the World Cup kicks off, draws nearer.

Trade unions

Currently, the primary source of the threat of strikes comes from the members belonging to the trade union FO-RATP, which stands for the rights of public transport workers in the capital city of France.

These workers have repeatedly threatened not to come to an agreement as negotiations between the authorities and the union continue.

The relevant authorities have advised travelers to make sure that they buy travel insurance prior to traveling to France.

This will protect them from any unexpected expenses that could occur in case of missing luggage, flight cancellations, as well as other inconveniences.

Moreover, union members have threatened to cancel flights to Alicante-Elche airport as well.

Consequently, it is possible that flights to the Spanish airport in question may also be canceled in the upcoming months.

Protests

In addition, security staff at the airport will be protesting for improved working conditions and increased pay beginning in October.

The strikes of the security staff are believed to last all the way to the end of January.

Meanwhile, employers of Ilunion Seguridad were striking from the 6th of October to the 15th of the month.

As of now, strikes have been scheduled for the 20th, 22nd, 24th, 27th, and 29th of October. Consequently, more than 10 strikes will be imposed throughout the airport in November as well.
