The National Institute of Statistics (INE) recently revealed statistics that covered the number of visitors to Spain in the past couple of months.
The statistics indicated that the country had welcomed more than 10 million travelers to the country in the month of July alone, which is a first-time feat.
The department went on to highlight that this figure marks a surge of more than 11% in the number of visitors as compared to the corresponding period of 2022.
Meanwhile, this number is 2.6% higher than the figure recorded in 2019, before the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic.
Tourism spend
Where the overall spending on tourism is concerned, Spain reeled in over €13 million in the month of July.
This is an overall increase of over 16% in comparison to July of 2022. Consequently, this is a reported surge of 16% as compared to the same period in 2019.
As per additional data released by the INE, Spain opened its doors to over 47 million people in the first seven months of the current year. This figure was a 20.9% increase as compared to the previous year.
In terms of spending, the country had a pretty successful year with a number of €59,864 million. This indicated a growth of over 25%, as compared to the year before and 14.7% in comparison to 2019.

According to the Minister of Industry Commerce and Tourism in Spain, Hector Gomez applauded the country for having a brilliant year.
In his words, for the first time in history, Spain has managed to exceed ten million travelers in the summer months, especially in July.
He further added that the spending levels of tourists were unprecedented, which aided in boosting the image of the country even further.
The Minister went on to discuss additional data obtained from the INE, which indicates that the average expense per tourist in the country in July went up to €1,367.
This figure showed a 4.4% as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
Travelers to Spain
Where the origin countries of the foreign travelers are concerned, the United Kingdom has emerged as the top location from where the visitors are entering Spain.
More than two million tourists from the country visited Spain, which accounted for 20% of the overall arrivals.
This number has also gone up by 7% as compared to the same time period in 2022.
The other two countries that contributed the most to tourism in Spain were Germany and France.
More than 1.6 million people flew in from France, which showed an increase of 11%. Meanwhile, more than one million foreign travelers came from Germany, recording an increase of 4.8%.
Various other countries recorded a year-on-year growth in residents traveling to Spain. One of these was the United States, which recorded a surge of more than 28%.
On the other hand, Portugal and Italy sent 18% and 27% more visitors to Spain in 2023 as compared to 2022.
As per the INE data, the first seven months of this year recorded the most tourists being attracted to the area of Catalonia in Spain, followed by the Balearic Islands and Canary Islands.
