The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has joined hands with the Thasos Municipality located in Greece.

Together, the two are actively making efforts to ensure that the tourism sector of the Island picks back up.

The UNWTO gave a statement recently, in which it emphasized on the overall evaluation of marketing efforts.

Consequently, the organization added that it will carefully assessing marketing campaigns, which were implemented for the purpose of promotion of tourism in Thasos in recent years.

Through its detailed analysis of overall efforts, the UNWTO will make guided future decisions.

In addition, it announced it plans to develop a new marketing plan from scratch, as per the results of the evaluation of prior efforts.

Tourism in Thasos

The island in Greece is known for its extraordinary natural landscape and is located in the northern region of the Aegean Sea.

For years, it has been frequented by families for vacations due to its peace and quiet, as well as the abundant scenic wonders and historical sites the island has to offer.

Hospitality sector in Thasos

In the previous year, tourist accommodation establishments on Thasos were at full occupancy. Consequently, they recorded 100% capacity.

It was further reported that the number of people arriving on the island was far greater than the number recorded back in 2019.

Where the foreign travelers are concerned, Romanians account of a substantial number of visitors to the island. Specifically, it was around 40% of the overall tourist influx experienced last year.

August 2022 was a historically strong month for the Greek island, which reported a high number of travelers from Central European and Balkan countries until schools reopened.

During this period, tourist arrivals surged between 10 to 15% as compared to the same period in the years 2018 and 2019.
