As of now, Hungary is experiencing a large influx of foreign travelers, on account of the Sziget Festival and the World Athletics Championships.

This year alone, more than 420,000 people participated in the Sziget Festival, which is held in Hungary every year.

Despite the large number of people showing up for the event, the organizer has revealed that they are still 30,000 less than the number recorded last year.

As per the international communication office of the Hungarian Prime Minister, a crowd of 450,000 people was in attendance last year.

Moreover, it explained that the reason for the large crowd was the increased demand for the Sziget Festival, shortly after the pandemic restrictions were lifted.

The Sziget Festival

According to the Hungarian Prime Minister’s office, the two-year hiatus of the festival led to people being excited about it being hosted in 2022.

As per the Prime Minister, since it is an event of huge excitement on the continent, people come out in droves to entertain themselves and party.

In his words, most of the people who attended the festival last year were those who had bought their tickets near the end of 2019.

He was shocked that even after a three-year wait, the people who had bought tickets in 2019, managed to show up for a good time.

The profits

Where this year’s festival is concerned, Kádár has been unable to confirm whether the much-awaited event reeled in a profit.

He cited that the overall revenue recorded for the event will incorporate a number of factors, which also include profits generated from food.

It was further revealed that the festival this year did not have any sold-out days. However, the days when Billie Eilish and Imagine Dragons were performing, came pretty close to being sold out.

Moreover, the organizers of the festival invited at least one internationally recognized singer to headline the event on a daily basis, which pushed up expenses.

Kádár revealed that Sziget had entered negotiations back in 2018, just to secure Billie Eilish for the next festival.

As the country begins preparing for the event that will be held in 2024, he went on to explain that organizers are coming up with a plan to increase sales of festival passes, instead of individual day tickets.

World Athletics Championship

Along with the festival, Hungary will also be hosting the World Athletics Championship in the capital city from the 19th of August to the 27th of August.

Reports have revealed that currently, accommodation establishments for foreign travelers have already started filling up.

As of now, these dwellings have more than 340,000 bookings for guest nights that lie between 19th August and 27th August.

It was also found that 70% of these 340,000 nights booked were by international visitors. They are said to be traveling from Israel, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, Australia, the United States, China, Canada, India, and Argentina.

Furthermore, the majority of accommodations booked were four or five-star hotels.

Due to the global reach of the event, it is expected to attract over one billion viewers through telecasts.
