Due to the upcoming Nero heatwave in Italy, tourists have been told to remain indoors and protect themselves from the extreme weather.

For this reason, the relevant authorities in the country have taken to place red heat alerts throughout Italy.

More than 16 cities in Italy have been forecasted to experience extreme weathers, with temperatures going as high as 40°C.

Red alerts

A red alert placed on a city indicates that even the fit, healthy, and young population should remain indoors between the hours of 10am and 6pm.

These temperatures are set to go up on account of Nero, the upcoming anticyclone.

It has been predicted that the heatwave can bring temperatures up to 38°C and 40°C.

Where the anticyclone is concerned, it has been named after an emperor who was accused of causing the Great Fire of 64 AD in the city of Rome.

Italy heatwave

The anticyclone has been predicted to bring about the hottest weather in the northern and central regions of the country.

Usually, it is the southern region of Italy that experiences averages of such temperatures every year.

Milan and Rome, which are the most popular tourist destinations in Italy, have taken to place red alerts.

They believe that temperatures in each respective city could go as high as 37°C.

Other red alerts

Various other tourist destinations, such as Genova, Florence, and Naples, have been warned to stay indoors and away from the sun.

This warning has been especially made for the hottest part of the day, meaning near noon.

There are a number of other Italian cities that have red heat alerts raised, like Bologna, Brescia, Verona, Bolzano, Rieti, Perugia, Palermo, Latina, and Frosinone.

Due to Nero, the country is experiencing high humidity levels, which means that the weather is quite sticky.

Some believe that temperatures as high as these can cause lead to difficulty in breathing.

Moreover, nighttimes are usually muggy as well, for which people have been advised to sleep in a room that is well-ventilated.

The use of an air conditioner or fan has also been suggested.

Where the time duration for the heatwave is concerned, forecasters believe that Nero’s sweltering conditions could ease before the end of the month.

Within a week, temperatures are predicted to experience a fall, due to the arrival of strong gusts of wind and thunderstorms.

For a while now, Italy has found itself at the forefront of high temperatures, especially since a heatwave swept through Europe in the previous month.

As a result, scorching temperatures led to the increased risk of deaths and fires.

Furthermore, the government has warned people to not indulge any exercise during the hottest part of the day.

They have also advised that people should drink plenty of water and stay in cooler areas of their homes.

When going out, the government suggests that people put on sunscreen that is SPF30 or higher and put on a hat and loose clothing.

In terms of keeping the body cool from the inside, it is recommended that people consume 4 small meals, as opposed to 3 big ones.
