About Utrecht
Utrecht, located just a short train ride southeast of Amsterdam, is unquestionably one of the most beautiful cities in the Netherlands. It was formerly the religious and cultural heart of the country, and it has plenty of intriguing historical and cultural tourism attractions for you to visit. It boasts a lovely medieval core that is cut through by the scenic Oudegracht canal.
There are numerous wonderful museums and art galleries strewn about, and the city’s numerous live music venues host a full calendar of visiting bands, DJs, and artists. With so many things to do in Utrecht, the Netherlands’ fourth-largest city, you will undoubtedly be entertained.
Shop At Hoog Catharijne
The cavernous Hoog Catharijne, one of the country’s largest indoor shopping malls, is located immediately adjacent to Utrecht Central Station, just a stone’s throw from the city center. There are about 100 different stores within, with a handful of cafes, restaurants, and fast food outlets strewed throughout. Hoog Catharijne is the best area to go shopping in Utrecht, and it’s housed in a distinctive-looking modern building.
Experience Fairtyle At De Haar Castle
De Haar Castle, which seems as if it came straight out of a fairytale, is a wonderfully magical destination to visit. Beautiful tangled rose gardens are surrounded by majestic turrets and towers. The Neo-Gothic castle, set in beautiful gardens with moats, lakes, and ponds surrounding it, is a photographer’s dream, with plenty of romantic scenarios on display.
The current castle, which was restored and renovated by the Rothschild family in 1892, includes over 200 rooms and 30 bathrooms, all of which are lavishly furnished with sculptures, paintings, and artworks. De Haar Castle, located east of Utrecht near to the municipality of Huurzuilens, is a popular day-trip destination with its fine rooms and lovely grounds to explore.
Visit the Surpurising Museum – Museum Speelklok
The Museum Speelklok, located in the heart of town, is a surprisingly fun, and entertaining place to visit, with incredible ancient mechanical organs, wind-up clocks, and self-playing musical instruments. Parts whirr into life as you pass, awash in sound.
The museum showcases some incredible craftsmanship, with many delicately built models on display. An educational tour informs you all about how the instruments and clocks were built, as well as how they are safeguarded and kept running, in addition to its numerous clockwork gems.
Visit Oudegracht
The lovely Oudegracht canal, which winds its way through the heart of town, is a big part of what makes Utrecht such a nice location to visit. Many of the lovely brickwork structures flanking the canal at water level were once wharves, cellars, and warehouses, but have since been transformed into vibrant cafes, bars, and restaurants.
Above them are wonderful cobblestone streets that are home to a variety of businesses. The canal is occasionally crossed by charming mansions with centuries-old bridges. Work on the beautiful waterway, which translates as “ancient canal” in Dutch, began in 1122. It has been an important element of the city’s life ever since.
