Vantaa is a city in southern Finland, adjacent to Helsinki, Finland’s capital, and home to the Helsinki-Vantaa airport.
Although the city is new, Vantaa has a long history and hosts a variety of events and festivals throughout the year. Nature, shopping malls, theatres, museums, sightseeing locations, lakes, street art, and architecture are all great places to visit in Vantaa. Here is the list of things that you can do on your visit to Vantaa.
Sauna Experience at Lake Kuusijärvi
Throughout the year, the Lake of Kuusijärvi is quite popular, especially with children and families. In the summer, there are great swimming facilities, and in the winter, cross-country skiing is an option. This is also a unique site for visitors because of its public smoke sauna, Savusauna, which provides them with a delightful experience of trying the sauna first and then cooling off in the sandy beach and lake. The sauna is heated every day, and there are some ice swimmers who visit Lake Kuusijärvi on a regular basis in the winter.
Visit Flamingo Spa
Flamingo Spa, a waterpark and spa, brings the tropics to life in a frigid atmosphere. The waterpark mixes indoor adventure with heated pools and slides that are available all year. The park is divided between a children’s area and an adult area, allowing children to splash and squeal while adults relax. Take a yoga session in the sauna, then indulge in one of the spa treatments, or simply relax in the cafe.
Explore scientific concepts at Heureka
Heureka is an interactive museum featuring indoor and outdoor exhibits where you may learn about scientific themes. The non-profit organization’s name comes from a Greek phrase that means “I’ve discovered it,” which explains its enthusiasm for educating the public about scientific discoveries and procedures. Visit nearly 200 exhibits, play outside in the Galilei Science Park, and gaze at the stars from the planetarium at the center. Here, you and your family can watch live shows, play games, and participate in other activities.
Visit Church of St. Lawrence/Pyhän Laurin kirkko
This church has the oldest edifice in Vantaa (about 1450) and is one of Finland’s best-maintained historical parishes. The church is today affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, but it previously served as the Roman Catholic Church. The church was largely devastated by a fire and underwent renovation plans as a result. The church’s current style is a mix of Medieval and Gothic Revival architecture, resulting in a fascinating and attractive structure worth seeing in Vantaa.
Visit Vantaa City Museum
This museum, which was founded in 1862 and is located in the former railway station of Tikkurila, is easily accessible. It is open to the public and has two floors of exhibitions. For schools, daycare centers, and other organizations, the museum offers guided tours and activities.
This is also an excellent spot for families to visit, as it piques children’s interest in learning about Vantaa’s history, participating in workshops, or simply admiring the museum’s photographs.
